It could be physical suffering\, or mental or emotional or financial — but she won't leave. She can't flee to safety in the care of an Ottawa Violence Against Women shelter... because that would mean leaving her beloved animal companion behind. Some of you might think "In order to save herself\, her well-being and maybe even her life\, sacrifice the animal's safety\, well-being... its life." But it's not that simple. To the woman\, the animal means comfort. Love. Compassion. She is tied to it and it to her. \n\nIn Ontario\, 48% of women who have opportunities to exit from situations of domestic violence delay leaving — or don’t leave at all. They are afraid to leave their companion animal(s) behind\, lest it become their proxy at the hands of the abuser. And this happens all too often. This is why we\, SafePet Ottawa\, foster the animals belonging to these women for the entire duration that they reside in-shelter. We put their minds and hearts to ease from all concern for their animal's safety. Their dogs\, cats\, pocket pets — even horses and goats — will be lovingly cared for by our closely- and carefully-chosen foster volunteers who desperately want to help.\n\n\nSaturday\, October 22\, 2016 SafePet Ottawa is hosting our Inaugural Masquerade Ball to raise funds so that we can keep growing our foster network and continue supplying food\, supplies and equipment to our fosters. We need your help\, so that we can help you. Your sister. Your mother. Your next-door neighbour. Show some love to our city's women.
